Etruscanning 3D project. The 3D reconstruction of the Regolini Galassi Tomb as a research tool and a new approach in storytelling

[EN] In the “Etruscanning3D” european project framework, the virtual reconstruction of the Regolini Galassi tomb, in Cerveteri, has been realized, in order to recontextualize its precious funerary goods, today preserved in the vatican Museums, in their ancient space, digitally represented in 3D. The reconstruction has been preceded by a huge work of data collection, reinterpretations, topographical acquisitions through a variety of techniques, digital restorations, in order to create a plausible simulation of how the tomb could appear when it was closed, at the half of the VII century BC. Hupperetz, W.; Carlani, R.; Pletinckx, D.; Pietroni, E. Analysis of Visualisation and Interaction Tools Authors

    Get PDF
This document provides an in-depth analysis of visualization and interaction tools employed in the context of Virtual Museum. This analysis is required to identify and design the tools and the different components that will be part of the Common Implementation Framework (CIF). The CIF will be the base of the web-based services and tools to support the development of Virtual Museums with particular attention to online Virtual Museum. The main goal is to provide to the stakeholders and developers an useful platform to support and help them in the development of their projects, despite the nature of the project itself. The design of the Common Implementation Framework (CIF) is based on an analysis of the typical workflow ofthe V-MUST partners and their perceived limitations of current technologies. This document is based also on the results of the V-MUST technical questionnaire (presented in the Deliverable 4.1). Based on these two source of information, we have selected some important tools (mainly visualization tools) and services and we elaborate some first guidelines and ideas for the design and development of the CIF, that shall provide a technological foundation for the V-MUST Platform, together with the V-MUST repository/repositories and the additional services defined in the WP4. Two state of the art reports, one about user interface design and another one about visualization technologies have been also provided in this document

CARARE - D6.4: CARARE International conference workshop 2010 (Final)

    No full text
CARARE organised three successful international activities, which consisted of the planned workshop plus a seminar and a 3D Working Group meeting. These were held in Spain, France and Belgium to communicate and promote the goals and concepts of CARARE and create interest by other cultural heritage organisations in joining the project. These activities successfully reached different target groups and supplied important feedback and information to the CARARE partners that are designing the new functionalities for Europeana. Several cultural heritage organisations have expressed their interest to join CARARE and provide content

    Methodology for sustainable digital restoration

    No full text
International audienceDigital restoration is a research methodology that focuses on the study of the object, on the restitution of its original aesthetic aspect and on its re-contextualisation. It is situated between digitisation and virtual reconstruction and aims at the restitution of the original appearance of an object by using computer graphic technologies. It can be used as a support for different kind of research projects and its results are excellent didactic instruments in the communication of the artwork to the public. In order to make digital restoration sustainable both the results and the methodology employed need to be documented and communicate in a complete and accurate way. This article focuses on the best practices of digital restoration and on the methodologies of its documentation and communication.

Reconstruction of the interior of the Saint Salvator abbey of Ename around 1290

    No full text
In this paper we outline the process of research about the reconstruction of the Saint Saviour abbey in Ename (Oudenaarde, Belgium) in the 13th century both in its architectural decoration and in its furnishing. The reason for the reconstruction is the creation of an educational game for the visitors of the Provincial Heritage Centre, built just next to the archaeological site of the abbey.

CARARE - D5.1 Functional specification of requirements for preparing 3D/VR for Europeana (Final)

    No full text
CARARE will make 3D accessible as a new type of content for Europeana users from 2012 onwards. This report sets out the functional specification of requirements for both content providers preparing to make their 3D resources accessible and Europeana on the delivery of such resources. The resulting document provides a workflow for implementation by CARARE. While people are familiar with seeing 3D effects (in commercials, TV, film footage and as images, etc.) most have little or no experience of interacting with a 3D environment. A few Europeana users will have experience of using interactive 3D in games or other 3D environments on the internet. But with the exception of experts, very few users are likely to have had experience of interacting with cultural heritage data in 3D. So an important aspect of this preparing specification has been to propose ways that allow all users of Europeana to interact in a natural way with 3D to explore, appreciate and enjoy European culture
